Twig's Garden

Guests - Please Look!

Many tour gardens "beef up" their beds with newer cultivars in anticipation of the upcoming event.  I didn't have that type of resources, so I asked a number of hybridizers, both well-known and not so well-known, to send me what "they were proud of".  They didn't have to be the current big seller, simply a good grower and something that they wanted to show off.  I received an overwhelming response, to which I was very humbled by, surprised and pleased.

This is the result - a collection of not only the type of daylily which I personally collect, but plants that those generous hybridizers are proud of.  I would like to say a very public THANK YOU to all of them!

If, after perusing my webpages, you decide that you need to add any one of these to your collection, please let the hybridizer know that you decided to do so because of their generosity in lending these plants for the 2009 Region 2 Summer Tour.:)

Cleopatra used to be a favorite for its bold eye, however, it does not survive well in the north.  This, in my humble opinion, should be the new standard.

What a stunning statement!

Image of DON'T KNOW JACK DON'T KNOW JACK

This one always kept me guessing, because its form is so unusual, it didn't seem to know which way it wanted to head every day it bloomed.  Always the personality.

I was intrigued by her heritage, Give Me Eight x Give Me Eight.  She never gave me any poly blooms, but I wonder what's possible in this delicate beauty's gene pool?

Image of MAD JACKY MAD JACKY

This is the longest of my Guest plants blooming.  Was in bloom on July 12 and continued until August 27.

For years, Clayton Burkey has described his growing conditions as difficult.  They truly must be, because registered at 3 branches with 11 buds, this was an over-the-top performer in my garden this year.  It achieved 4-way branching with 28 buds.  It must have been watered it well enough.:)

Sure is a cutie!

Image of SCARLET BUTTERFLY SCARLET BUTTERFLY

Another very small one from Bill Reinke, very well branched.

Image of SCARPIA SCARPIA

A shocker with its green throat.  Despite Bob Schwarz' warning that it may be a southern plant, it was much stronger here than one of its parents, Tet Satan's Curls.
