Daylilies on Swearing Creek is a state inspected and approved American Hemerocallis Society Display Garden with approxinately 600 registered cultvars. We ship only within the contiguous United States, with the exception of Alaska, Arizona and California.

Our gardens are open, and we encourage you to stop by to see them during bloom season, which for us is from mid-May into late September. Our peak bloom, however, is the week prior to July 4 or the week including our national Day of Independence. And Mom and Dad, bring the little ones and let them look and smell and even taste the flowers. But please keep them within arm's reach. We don't want to see them or another visitor injured.

Our granddaughter, Mei Seul, furnished incontrovertible proof that the blooms are, indeed, edible. While still a toddler in diapers, she was asked by her mother, Alison Sinclair Lawrence, if she would like to "smell" a bloom from the flower named for her, MUCKRAKER'S MEI SEUL, and without hesitation, she took it from Alison, passed it toward her nose and directly into her mouth -- proving that, indeed, the flowers are edible. Oh, yes, she ate the whole thing.

Because we have never had rust in our gardens, either here or formerly in Annandale, Va., we have not sprayed for it, nor have we yet seen a need to spray for thrip or aphids or any other not-so-friendly bugs. However, should we suspect an infestation, even a minute one, we may have to reconsider our position. Until then, our ladybugs and praying mantises can feast to their hearts' content.

We also try to keep our winged friends around, so if you wear red and hear something humming in your ear, you've attracted one of our ruby-throated hummingbirds, which are perfectly willing to assault anything red. They're harmless, though; just checking you out to see if you might have some nectar dripping from your fingers.

Should you wish to contact us, we are available via e-mail, telephone or fax. This information is on our home page and repeated here: George and/or Kathy Lawrence, Daylilies on Swearing Creek, 1125 Hickory Point Drive, Lexington, NC 27292-8123; email -- ladybugr@triad.rr.com ; telephone and fax -- 336-798-6387. We usually have a phone with us at all times, but occasionally we get lazy and just leave it in its cradle. If you miss us, please leave a message so we can get back to you.

Shipping costs have risen, along with everything else recently, and despite our hopes to the contrary, the rising cost of shipping, by whatever carrier, has forced Daylilies on Swearing Creek to increase its shipping and handling costs effective April 1, 2011, to $10 plus 50 cents per double fan per plant. Clumps are shipped at slightly higher cost, so please inquire.

We are obliged to collect state sales tax on purchases by North Carolina residents -- unless they possess a state business license. If you possess one, please furnish us the number for future reference. The state sales tax rate is 4.5 percent. Some counties charge a county tax over and above the state sales tax, but we will leave it to residents of those counties to satisfy that obligation.

As so many know, somehow what started as a hobby quickly became an obsession that reached the level of a business. But our love of daylilies remains a hobby, and so it shall remain -- a fun thing above all else.

We look forward to hearing from you.
