Petit, 2010 [(Passion in Paris x Streetcar Named Desire) (Ruby Pearl Sullivan)] x James’s Prissy Kirsti) Sev. 5.5” fl. 27” sc. M 15-20 buds. The flowers of Belize are a deep plum to grape purple. The flowers have a small lighter watermark surrounding a deep green throat. The ruffled petal edges are surrounded by a heavy gold edge. The fertile flowers are striking because of their intense and unusual color. Despite their heavy gold edge, the blooms of Belize never hang, and the plants are cold hardy. Because of so many wonderful characteristics, we have used Belize heavily in our purple and red breeding program with wonderful success. |

BLAST OF BLUE
Display Only |
2011 (Linda Sierra x Tet. Crystal Blue Persuasion) Sev. 5 - 5.5" fl. 34" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. The flowers of Blast of Blue are a clear lavender with a blue violet pattern eye and a green throat. The eye is surrounded by a darker burgundy mascara band, which continues around the petal edges as a wire picotee edge. The flowers are held on tall scapes. The plants show excellent rust resistance and the semi-evergreen plants are cold hardy, thanks to the dormant Linda Sierra as a parent. The color of the eye is a very clear medium blue to blue violet. One of my most heavily used parents for my blue lines because of its tall scapes, clear blue color and cold hardy nature. |

(Gary Colby x William Steen) x (Jasmine Ross) Sev. 6-6.5” fl. 26” sc. M 20-25 buds. These shockingly colored flowers are an electric, fully saturated, fire engine red self. The flowers are surrounded by a heavily ruffled gold edge, often with angel wings. At the center of the flower is a deep green heart. The flowers are very fertile, easily setting pods. Electric Red changed my red breeding program, being the parent of my intensely saturated reds, including our future introduction, Scarlet Angel. Striking color in the garden, and an incredible |

CHINESE FIRE DRAGON
Display Only |
2011 (Roman Renaissance x Ruby Pearl Sullivan). Sev. 6" fl. 28" sc. M 25-30 buds. What a beautiful combination of these two wonderful parents. Roman Renaissance added deeper color to the fabulous rose red Ruby Pearl Sullivan. The combination resulted in a deep fire engine to Chinese red flower. The velvety flowers have a lighter watermark surrounding a green throat. The looping, ruffled petals are surrounded by a wide gold edge. Despite the heavy edging, the flowers never hang. The wonderfully branched scapes have 4 laterals plus top branching. The plants have very good to excellent rust resistance and are cold hardy, and the flowers are easily fertile both ways.

CORONATION DREAM
Display Only |
[Gary Colby x Denali] Sev. 6.5 - 7" fl. 27" sc. M 20 buds. Coronation Dream is by far the most sophisticated and commanding double flower that I know. The blooms are a soft baby ribbon pink, with both the petals and sepals surrounded by a pronounced gold edge. The flowers are extremely large, especially for a double flower. Add to this blooms that are both consistently and fully double, and are on tall, very sturdy scapes, and you have a very powerful display of massive pom-pom blooms. From a simple cross, these flowers got the huge size from both famous parents, along with sophistication and ornate gold edging covering the flower. Coronation Dream is is destined to be a star. |

COUNT DRACULA
Display Only |
2011 [(Fortunes Dearest x Barracuda Bay) x (Mort Morss)] x (Larry’s Obsession) Sev. 5.5" fl. 24 " sc. Early 20 buds. Easily fertile both ways. The flowers of Count Dracula are a dark, near black purple with an even darker eye that streaks toward a green throat. The petals and sepals are heavily edged in highly contrasting white teeth. The teeth are so wide that they come together to make a broad white border. The plants begin to bloom early, making a showy start to the season. The cold hardy plants have excellent rust resistance. The plants are small by nature, but are wonderfully proportioned with the flower size and scape height. A great parent for near black flowers with wide white edges and shark teeth. |

DIANA CULBERTSON
Display Only |
2011 (Fine French Porcelain x Full Circle) Sev. 6 - 6.5" fl. 25 - 27" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. The self color of Diana Culbertson is a soft cream pink accentuated with a deep green throat. The flowers picked up the soft pink color from Fine French Porcelain, and the heavy substance and amazing fullness from Full Circle. The form of the flowers is exceptional, with extremely wide, overlapping petals. The petals are also deeply ruffled with a gold edge. What makes the flowers stand out so much in the garden is their large size, impeccable form and extremely heavy substance. The blooms look like they would weigh five pounds. The plants have average to good rust resistance and are cold hardy. Very highly recommended! |

EARL OF ESSEX
Display Only |
2011 (Gary Colby x Cape Breton) x (James’s Prissy Kristi) Dor to Sev. 6.5 - 7" fl. 28-29" sc. M 25 buds. These medium purple flowers make a strong statement in the garden, with their large size and heavy gold edge. The blooms have a lighter watermark and green throat. James’s Prissy Kristi was a very important parent for increased size and heavy gold to chartreuse edging. Earl of Essex is an improvement in having clearer, stronger color. The plants are a true middle of the road semi-evergreen, remaining evergreen to semi-evergreen in warm winters, but going fully dormant in cold winters. Despite their semi-evergreen to dormant nature, they are strong, vigorous growers, making big, healthy plants in Florida. The cold hardy plants have very good rust resistance and the flowers are fertile both ways. |

EVEN HEROES BLEED
Display Only |
2011 (Spectacle of Wealth x Alexa Katherine) Sev. 6-7" fl. 24-27" sc. M 15-20 buds. Fertile both ways. The flowers have been a favorite from their maiden bloom. The rose red blooms have a large green throat and wide, ruffled gold edges. The ruffles go almost all the way to the midrib. What makes the flowers even more interesting is that the color slowly intensifies as it moves toward the petal edges, or bleeds as it approaches the throat. The plants have good rust resistance and are cold hardy. Truly unique and distinctive.

EVERYTHING YOU DESIRE
Display Only |
Petit, 2010
(Dancing With Julie x Electric Red) Sev. to Dor. 6.5” fl. 25” sc. M 15-20 buds. The flowers of Everything You Desire are a cranberry rose with a lighter watermark above a green throat. The fertile blooms are surrounded by a very ruffled, pleated edge, and a white wire edge. The flowers are further accented by very wide sepals. Larry Grace stopped me at Everything You Desire, and after admiring it, he said “Ted, that’s a very important daylily.” The cold hardy plants of Everything You Desire have a lot of dormancy in them, going completely dormant in cold winters. However, they make strong, vigorous plants in north Florida. These large flowers glow in the garden. |

HIDDEN DEPTHS
Display Only |
[(Gavin Petit) x (Moment In The Sun)] x (Gary Colby x Cape Breton) Sev. 6.5" fl. 26" sc. M 20 buds. Looking for a bold statement in the garden? Hidden depths has it all. These are large, beautiful purple flowers with an extremely ornate gold edge. The petals are very wide, with a lighter watermark surrounding a green throat. The color varies through the season from a medium purple to a dark lavender. The gold edge is heavily ruffled and pleated, in what seems to be a piling up of large clusters of gold nuggets. The fertile plants are the parent of many of my future introductions. These flowers can be shocking. |

2011 (Alexa Katherine x Cristofori’s Encore) x (James’s Prissy Kristi) Sev. 5.5 - 6" fl. 25" sc. M 25 buds. Fertile both ways. This flower is named for my grandfather who had the courage to leave France to come to the U.S. after World War One. The petal color is a beautiful clear purple, with a lighter watermark surrounding a green throat. The very ruffled petals are surrounded by a gold to chartreuse edge. The plants have good rust resistance and are cold hardy. Earl of Essex and Jules Louis Petit have been my most heavily used parents in my purple and lavender lines for the last several years. Simply beautiful and a fantastic parent. |

MASKED MARAUDER
Display Only |
2011 (Casa de Juan x Written On The Wind) x Just Fabulous. Sev. 6.5" fl. 30" sc. M 15-20 buds. Fertile both ways. These highly eye-catching flowers are a rose mauve with a very dark black purple eye and wide matching edge. The ruffled petals are surrounded by a second, wire gold edge. At the center of these strongly colored flowers is a cool green throat. The large flowers are presented on tall scapes. The plants show good rust resistance and are cold hardy. While I generally prefer flowers with a more rounded form, even I am knocked over by these startling flowers. You simply can’t walk by without stopping in your tracks. |

MORNING COMES ELECTRIC
Display Only |
2010 (Rippled Oasis x Bella Isabella ) (Wild And Wacky) Sev. 7" fl. 30" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. The flowers of MORNING COMES ELECTRIC are can be shocking. The flowers have a cream pink self with a deep lettuce green throat. Most of the flower surface is covered by a large rose red patterned eye with an applique center. The applique pattern breaks up in the eye and throat area to give the impression of an exploding applique. The bright rose red eye is mimicked on the sepals and surrounds the petal edges as a picotee surrounded by a bubbly gold edge. Totally unique! |

PEBBLE IN A POND
Display Only |
2011 (Zoe Allegra) x (Pat Stamile seedling from Rock Solid x Zahadoom) Sev. 4.5" fl. 26-30" sc. M 25-30 buds. Fertile both ways. Pebble In A Pond is a light cream to near white base with a multicolored pattern eye of concentric circles. The shockwave or earthquake pattern is very dramatic, with repeating bands of light and dark. The eye is also large, taking up almost half of the petal surface. The dark purple eye continues around the petal edges as a dark purple picotee. The eye is particularly dramatic against the clear, near white base. The rust resistance is average to good and the plants are cold hardy and have nicely branched scapes. My best parent for shockwave patterns on a light base; when combined with Tet. Texas Kaleidoscope and Tet. Dark Mosaic, the kids have been nothing short of shocking! A must for ricochet pattern eye breeding.

RAINBOWS IN HEAVEN
Display Only |
2010 [(Come What May x Sailing At Dawn) x (Send Me A Rainbow x Reggie Morgan)] Sev. 7" fl. 31" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. The self color of RAINBOWS IN HEAVEN is an orchid pink. The blooms have a purple violet pattern eye and green throat. The purple violet eye often contains other bands of color and is surrounded by a burgundy mascara band. The pattern eye continues out along the petal edges as a wide picotee consisting of several bands of color, often including charcoal, burgundy and purple violet, surrounded by a wide ruffled gold edge. A very important breeder for violet and pattern flowers on tall 31” scapes with wide, complex patterned edges, large size and ornate ruffled gold edging. |

ROYAL CYPHER
Display Only |
2011 (Mother Ocean x Featuring The Gold) x [Reggie Morgan x (Send Me A Rainbow x Alexa Katherine)] Sev. 6" fl. 30-34" sc. M. 30-35 buds. Royal Cypher has been my most important parent to date for fancy pattern flowers with rainbow edges. The self color is a pale cream, while the pattern eye is a violet with a burgundy mascara eye and matching inward streaks. The multi-color eye continues along the petal edges as a double picotee edge of violet and burgundy, surrounded by an ornate gold edge. A look at the parentage shows that this was an attempt to bring wide edging into my pattern lines. The highly ruffled edges can be ornate, with loops and angel wings as pictured. At the center of the flower is a cool green throat. Royal Cypher has a picture perfect, tall, beautifully branched scape, which is probably why Larry Grace considered it one of my very best breeders for fancy pattern flowers. These cold hardy plants have good rust resistance and are easily fertile both ways. Royal Cypher brings size, ornate ruffles and wide rainbow edges to pattern daylilies.

SHADOWS WILL FALL
Display Only |
2010 (Manx x Richard Taylor Yates) x (Inner Space). Sev. 6 - 6.5" fl. 26" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. These lavender rose double flowers have a distinctive darker purple eye and picotee edge. The purple eye extends out on the petal edges as a purple picotee, surrounded by a bubbly wire gold edge. At the center of the flower is a deep green throat. The doubling can vary, but in our garden it is most often a hose-in-hose double as pictured. The flowers are carried on nicely branched scapes. These are very formal and showy doubles |

SISTERS OF MERCY
Display Only |
2010 (Edge of Heaven) x (Expensive Taste x Ed Brown). Sev. 6" fl. 28" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. These extremely ruffled, filagree and serrated edged flowers are a charm in the garden. The petal self is a cream pink with a deep green throat. The flowers typically have a deep rose splash of color at the tips of the petals, which gradually soften onto the petal surface. The degree of tipping varies with the weather, sometimes being quite strong, while mysteriously disappearing completely at other times. A real breakthrough for breeding complex coloration. |

TED'S TRIBUTE TO LINDA
Display Only |
2010 (Alexa Katherine x Gary Colby) Sev. 8" fl. 25" sc. M. 20 - 25 buds. Fertile both ways. The garden name for this flower was Nine Point Five, because I measured the maiden bloom at 9.5”. The flowers settle down and generally bloom in the 8” range. The base color is a clear lavender, with huge looping gold to chartreuse edges, a green throat and a large lighter watermark. It performs as a vigorous evergreen to semi-evergreen in warm winters, but goes completely dormant in cold winters. A favorite of so many hybridizers, it was Bill Waldrop’s top choice of any flower in my garden, and Larry Grace said “That’s the prettiest thing I have ever looked at.” Barbara Burkhart paid $7,500 (making it the most expensive daylily sold at auction) at the Lake Tahoe meeting to name the flower, and she chose the name after consulting with Linda. An extraordinary flower named for an extraordinary friend and hybridizer, whom we all loved and who has left an enormous vacuum in so many lives. LIMITED!

VELVET RAVEN
Display Only |
2010 [(Symphony of Fire x Roman Renaissance) x (Streetcar Named Desire)] x (Electric Red). Sev. 7" fl. 40" sc. M 20 buds. At this point you are probably wondering if you picked up the wrong catalog. After all, everyone knows that I breed for large, showy, shocking flowers, usually with heavy gold edges. But, VELVET RAVEN has only a wire gold edge. Trust me, even without a heavy gold edge, these flowers are shocking show-stoppers. Many years ago, Bill Munson had a saturated velvety red that he had named Velvet Raven, which is a great grandparent of these flowers. Since Bill never registered or used the name, we felt it was a reasonable tribute to use that name on these flowers. The nicely ruffled flowers of VELVET RAVEN are a very dark, near black, blood red. The flowers have a velvety appearance, making them look as if they were cut from a red velvet dress. They also have a lighter watermark surrounding a green throat. Adding to the importance of these flowers is that they never hang, are presented on very tall 40” scapes, and are easily fertile both ways. |

VICTORIAN TIMES
Display Only |
Petit, 2010 (Unlock The Stars x Goddess Divine) x (Petal Pusher x Nature’s Crown) Sev. 6" fl. 26" sc. M 20 buds. Fertile both ways. These beautiful, clear baby ribbon pink doubles generally take on a peony form. At the center of the flower is a light green throat. The ruffled petal edges are surrounded by a crimped gold edge on both the petals and petaloids. These lovely double flowers have a very heavy substance and always open like a wax sculpture.
